About Me

I have a career in television and print journalism. In print I hold to classic principles of writing (think George Orwell), classical conservatism (think Abraham Lincoln), and Christianity (think Augustine and Roberta Bondi). I explore the world and draw from these foundations for answers. I’m still getting my footing with television. I’ll get back to you with the “why” journalism behind the “what” I do.

A quote by Egyptologist Kenneth Kitchen helped me understand my writing philosophy. The quote says that people in the ancient Near East “mythologized” history; they celebrated real historical events and people in mythological terms.

Similarly, I like to make the 5 W’s and H of journalism the guide to my reading of stories, songs, and conversations. I use the fuller understanding that my philosophy allows in my writing.

Most of what I write about comes from real experiences. I tell stories with creative writing and long-form journalism. I know that you can take your reader anywhere once you nail down who, what, where, when, why and how, and bring it to life.
